Day 1 - Connect with Your Root Chakra

Root Chakra Introduction

The Root Chakra is traditionally associated with grounding, security, stability and belonging. It asks us to notice how safe and supported we feel within ourselves and within our lives. When life becomes busy or uncertain, our attention can move quickly into the future. Today, come back to here. Feel your feet. Notice your breath. Remember the ground beneath you.

Root Chakra Name

Sanskrit name: Muladhara

Each chakra has a traditional Sanskrit name, the ancient language used in yogic and Vedic traditions where this system originated. Sanskrit names carry the original meaning and vibration of each energy centre.

Root Chakra Seed Sound

Seed sound: LAM

Each chakra also has a 'seed sound,' a single syllable chanted to activate and balance that energy centre. The Root Chakra's seed sound is LAM. You can chant it aloud on a long, slow exhale, letting the vibration resonate in the area of the body that chakra relates to, in this case, the base of the spine.

Colour: Red

Each chakra is associated with a colour because chakras are understood as centres of vibrating energy, and different vibrations are traditionally linked to different colours, much like a rainbow moves from red to violet. The colour helps you visualise and connect with that chakra during meditation, for example, picturing warm red light at the base of your spine for the Root Chakra can help focus your awareness there

Root Chakra Body Focus

Body focus: Base of the spine, pelvic floor, legs and feet so grounding poses and standing postures work especially well here.

Body focus' refers to the physical area of the body most closely associated with that chakra. It's often the region to bring your attention to during meditation, breathing or yoga, since it's where that chakra's energy is said to be centred.

Simple Root Chakra Yoga Pose

Mountain Pose (Tadasana) looks deceptively simple, but it's the foundation every other standing pose is built on, and a perfect match for Root Chakra grounding. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, pressing evenly through all four corners of each foot. Soften your knees slightly rather than locking them, and let your weight settle down through your legs into the earth. Lengthen your spine, draw your shoulders back and down, and let your arms rest naturally by your sides with your palms facing forward. Lift through the crown of your head while keeping your jaw and belly relaxed. Breathe slowly and evenly, and with each exhale, imagine roots growing down from the soles of your feet, anchoring you firmly into the ground beneath you. Hold for five to ten slow breaths, simply noticing the steady, quiet support of the earth holding you up without any effort on your part.

Root Chakra Crystals

Crystals are believed to carry their own subtle energy, quietly formed over thousands of years within the earth. When you hold or wear one, you connect with something alive and ancient that can help anchor your own intention.

Choose a Root Chakra stone like Red Jasper, Smoky Quartz or Obsidian, or reach for our Root Chakra Crystal Meditation Necklace, which brings a selection of tactile Root Chakra stones together in one versatile design.

Hold your crystals, breathe slowly, meditate and set a simple intention. Then carry, wear or place them somewhere you can see them throughout your day, so they become a beautiful, constant reminder to protect and nurture that energy.

Root Chakra Mantra

A mantra is a short phrase you repeat, out loud or silently, to focus your mind and shift your energy. Simply say it slowly a few times today, especially when you catch yourself feeling unsettled, and let the words sink in rather than just reciting them.

"I am grounded. I am supported. I trust life."

You can also use your crystal necklace as you repeat this mantra, moving slowly from stone to stone, one repetition per bead, for a simple grounding practice.

Root Chakra Practice

Find a patch of earth or grass outside, and slip off your shoes and socks. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, feeling the ground beneath your soles, cool grass, warm sand, whatever is there. Close your eyes if that feels comfortable, and take five slow, deep breaths, letting your shoulders drop a little more with each exhale. With every breath out, imagine any tension or worry draining down through your feet into the earth. Then simply stand for a minute or two, feeling how solid and steady the ground is beneath you. Ask yourself quietly: what helps me feel truly supported? You don't need to answer straight away, just notice whatever comes up, then carry that feeling of steadiness with you as you go about your day.

Root Chakra Intention

Your daily intention is a short statement you carry with you throughout the day, a gentle reminder of the mindset you're choosing to practice. Read it in the morning, repeat it whenever you need to refocus, and let it quietly guide how you respond to whatever comes up

"I choose to meet life where I am at"

Root Chakra Journaling Prompt

A journaling prompt is a simple question or statement designed to spark honest reflection. There's no right or wrong answer, just write whatever comes to mind for a few minutes, without overthinking or editing yourself.

Where are you when you feel most safe and secure?

Who in your life creates feelings of safety, comfort and support?

Root Chakra Course Summary

As you move through today, let grounding become less of a task and more of a homecoming. Every time you notice your feet on the earth or your breath moving through your body, you're strengthening your Root Chakra's foundation. This is the ground everything else in this course will be built on, so be patient and gentle with yourself. Tomorrow, we'll move into the Sacral Chakra and begin exploring creativity and flow.

In addition to this course please explore our ROOT CHAKRA COLLECTION to help you deepen your practice.
